About Me
I'm Simran Shrivastava, a journalist based in Nagpur. I tell stories about the people, places, and traditions that shape how communities live and remember.
My journey into journalism started with a love for language. Growing up, I was drawn to the way words could paint vivid pictures of places I'd never been and people I'd never met. That curiosity led me to study English Literature at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, where I spent three years immersed in storytelling - from analysing humour in children's fiction to understanding how narratives shape public memory.
After my undergrad, I moved to Mumbai to pursue Mass Communication and Journalism at Xavier Institute of Communication. That's where things got real. I reported on the ground, wrote about the Koli fishing community's struggle against urbanisation, documented century-old Ramzan food traditions in the city's bylanes, and researched how media and the judiciary responded to the Gujarat riots of 2002 for my postgraduate thesis.
My time at The Times of India gave me the newsroom experience of working under pressure - covering culture, lifestyle, community events, and public affairs. I reported, investigated, and published over 100 stories across two stints, learning to ground every narrative in solid research and public data.
Today, I report for The Hitavada, one of Central India's leading English dailies. My beat takes me through Nagpur's local culture, heritage sites, community stories, and the daily rhythms of public life. I believe the best stories are the ones that make you feel like you've been somewhere, met someone, or tasted something new - even if you've never left your chair.
I'm currently looking to transition into travel and culture journalism - exploring places, food traditions, and the lived experiences that connect people across borders. I carry a notebook everywhere, a camera most places, and an appetite for stories always.
